UCLPartners Director named new Chair-elect of the Royal College of General Practitioners

Professor Martin Marshall, Programme Director for Primary Care, Community Care and Population Health, is leaving UCLPartners to take up the role of Chair-elect for the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).

The RCGP is a professional membership body for GPs in the UK. It exists to encourage, foster and maintain the highest possible standards in general medical practice.

As Chair Martin will lead on all aspects of College policy and strategic decision making.

Martin has held the post of Programme Director for Primary Care at UCLPartners since the organisation’s inception in 2009. Alongside this, Martin has continued to practice as a GP in Newham, East London, held a healthcare improvement post at UCL and, since 2016, has been the RCGP’s Vice Chair for External Affairs.

Speaking about his new appointment Professor Marshall said: “I feel privileged to have been able to work with so many patients, healthcare professionals and researchers with a passion for delivering excellent patient care during my time at UCLPartners.

“I am honoured and humbled to be elected as the next Chair of the RCGP and will do everything I can to represent the views of frontline GPs across the UK during this next exciting chapter”

Professor Martin Marshall will succeed current RCGP Chair Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard in November 2019 for a three-year term. He will leave UCLPartners on 1 September.
