Researchers pilot low birth weight prevention methods in Newham

As part of our Newham Partnership Programme with Newham Clinical Commissioning Group we’ve been working with our partners to better understand the causes of low birth weight and test actions to prevent it.

Newham has one of the highest proportions of babies born with low birth weight in England, 3% above the national average. It is important that low birth weight is prevented as it can negatively impact on a baby’s long-term development.

Researchers from the University of East London, who have led the work in Newham investigating low birth weight, have produced a new video.

This video outlines the work that has been underway in the borough. It also showcases some examples of what’s available in Newham to support parents and families with breastfeeding and healthy baby feeding.
