NHS Innovation Accelerator
The NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) helps scale proven healthcare innovations across the NHS, improving patient care and supporting staff with impactful solutions.
The NIA is delivered by UCLPartners on behalf of NHS England, in partnership with the Health Innovation Network.
Since the NIA’s launch in 2015, we have supported 140 fellows through the accelerator programme. This has enabled novel solutions to be adopted across NHS sites nationwide, the creation of 1,345 jobs, and over £246 million in external investment to be secured.
Over this time, NIA solutions have reached more than 13.1 million patients, been adopted by 3,532 NHS organisations, generated over £101.8 million in UK revenue, and won 269 awards.
The 2025/2026 NIA cohort have reached over 4.6 million patients with their innovation-based solutions, created 138 jobs, achieved over £14.2 million in UK revenue, and secured over £10.2 million in investment.
The innovations have entered 56 new NHS organisations and won 23 awards.
The programme continues to go from strength to strength, with sustained growth in the reach and impact of NIA-supported innovations. Our annual call for applications also saw continued momentum, with 185 applications received for the 2026 intake — a 41% increase on 2025 (131 applications), demonstrating both rising interest and strong demand for the programme.
Behind these numbers are innovators working across a wide range of clinical areas, from dementia and diagnostics to prevention, workforce and digital care. Their work is helping patients access better support, giving staff practical tools to improve care, and showing how proven innovations can spread across the NHS.
