Prof Mike Roberts appointed as Managing Director of UCLPartners AHSN
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Mike Roberts as Managing Director of UCLPartners AHSN.
Mike will lead on the delivery of UCLPartners’ work as one of 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) across England, which collectively aim to improve health by enabling the NHS, academia and industry to identify, adopt and spread innovation, improvement and best practice.
Mike brings extensive clinical and academic expertise to the role. He is Integrated Care Respiratory Physician at Princess Alexandra NHS Trust, Professor of Medical Education for Clinical Practice at Queen Mary University of London, and Deputy Director at NIHR North Thames CLAHRC. He has been Director of a number of programmes at UCLPartners since 2011, most recently as Programme Director of Education and Population Health.
In his new role, Mike will continue to work closely with Charlie Davie, UCLPartners Managing Director, and the UCLPartners Board, maximising the opportunities to improve health outcomes provided by UCLPartners’ multiple roles as an AHSN and an Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) and its alignment with other clinical and applied research functions in the region.
Dr Charlie Davie, Managing Director of UCLPartners said: “Now in its second licence period, the UCLPartners AHSN is an important part of our work to speed up the adoption and spread of innovation and improvements, working locally and as part of a national network. I look forward to working with Mike in his new role, which provides a tremendous opportunity to build on the successes of our AHSN in using evidence-based innovations and improvements for better health outcomes and patient experience.”
Rt. Hon. Professor Lord Kakkar, PC, Chair of UCLPartners, said: “The Board is delighted to appoint Professor Mike Roberts as Managing Director of UCLPartners AHSN. Mike brings extensive clinical leadership experience, deep understanding of how innovation can lead to improved patient care and healthier lives, and strong academic and clinical connections locally, nationally and internationally.”
On his appointment, Professor Mike Roberts said: “I am excited to take on this opportunity to lead on the delivery of the UCLPartners AHSN. Our region is home to many world-renowned scientific research organisations, leading health-care providers, cutting-edge industry partners and innovative community organisations. I look forward to working with partners across the region – and with others across the AHSN Network – to help harness these unique assets for better care and improved health for our population.”
