Applications open for new Invasive Procedures Safety Network

We are inviting teams and organisations from across our footprint to apply to be part of the Invasive Procedures Safety Network. The aim of the network is to support organisations to develop and implement Local Safety Standards for Invasive Procedures.

The National Safety Standards for Invasive Procedures (NatSSIPs) bring together national and local learning from the analysis of Never Events, Serious Incidents and near misses, in a set of principles that underpin delivery of safe care for patients undergoing invasive procedures. This provides a framework to produce Local Safety Standards for Invasive Procedures (LocSSIPs), created by trusts’ multidisciplinary clinical teams and patients.
The standards are then implemented alongside education in human factors and teamwork.

We want to bring together organisations within our partnership to develop and implement their LocSSIPs and encourage the sharing of best practice in provision of care for patients undergoing invasive procedures.

The network will initially run from June 2019 to April 2020, with the potential to run beyond this period and with additional organisations joining.

The network will offer teams:

• Education
• Peer support
• Expert speakers
• Tailored QI coaching

As part of the Invasive Procedures Safety Network, participants will have the opportunity to:

• Explore their current safety culture
• Review existing policies and identify areas for improvement
• Develop their own LocSSIPs
• Start to implement changes

We will host up to six network events co-designed by participating teams.

We also have 20 complimentary tickets for the fifth National Perioperative Safety and Quality Conference taking place on Thursday 16 May 2019, at the Royal London Hospital. This offer is on a first-come-first-served basis so please express your interest in joining our network to receive a complimentary event ticket.

Who can apply?

This programme is designed for trusts in our partnership, who are looking to define and develop their LocSSIPs through engagement of multidisciplinary front-line teams. We expect the participating teams will be formed at site level and welcome multi-site trusts to apply with more than one team.
