Local Clinical Midwifery Lead
Closing date:
27 July 2025
This national initiative aims to significantly reduce avoidable brain injuries during childbirth by 2027 through improved clinical practice, teamwork, and communication.
This role is pivotal in promoting the delivery of safe, high-quality care while supporting a positive, collaborative culture that enhances outcomes for women, birthing people and their families. The successful candidate will demonstrate clinical excellence, leadership capabilities, and a passion for supporting professional development and continuous improvement within maternity services.
This is a rewarding opportunity to influence real change in maternity services, improve patient safety, and collaborate closely with like-minded professionals across the country.
The ABC Programme focuses on two key clinical challenges:
· Detecting and responding to fetal deterioration during labour (IFD)
· Managing impacted fetal head at caesarean birth (IFH)
By implementing the tools with structured training, we’re striving to improve outcomes and experiences for mothers, babies, and families across England. If successful, this programme could reduce litigation costs by up to £1.4 billion annually, alongside significant improvement in care quality.
The Local Clinical Midwifery Lead Midwife lead will report to the Director of Implementation (UCLPartners’ Patient Safety Lead). The role is a fixed term position, until 31 March 2026 (with possibility of extension) with a 8 hour work week (2 Pas). The remuneration for this post is competitive depending on experience and we welcome applications from senior band 6, 7 and 8. Secondments will be considered.
