Patient and public involvement and engagement

We believe physical and mental health and care research and innovation must be designed in partnership with people whose lives our work effects: patients, carers, and members of the public

Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) is an essential part of our work at UCLPartners, as it provides opportunities for patients, carers, and public groups to share their knowledge, experiences and views to shape our work in health and care to better meet their needs.

It is our vision that all the research and innovation activities happening across UCLPartners are informed and enriched by involvement and engagement that is proactive, responsive, and designed and delivered with our diverse population. To help us achieve this, we have developed our PPIE Strategy 2022-2025 which outlines how we will be working over the next three years to advance our work with patients, carers and members of the public.

Our work focuses on:

  • Developing ways to involve and engage patients, carers, and members of the public in the health and care research and innovation work happening across our partnership. This includes the UCLPartners Patient, Carer, and Public Advisory Panel
  • Developing ways to help our NHS, academic and industry partners build their confidence and skills in patient involvement. This includes delivering training programmes, running a peer learning network, and providing advice and support.
  • Developing ways to further patient involvement practice in our region, working alongside other Patient Involvement Leads. Find out more about the members of the Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) who make up our PPIE committee here
  • Connecting patients, carers, and members of the public with opportunities from our NHS, academic, and industry partners enabling groups to work together to shape health and care research and innovation.

If you’re interested in any of the activities we run– whether you’re a patient, carer, member of the public, NHS staff, an academic or industry partner– get in touch with the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement team to find out how we can work together.
