Mental Health Patient Safety Improvement Programme
The Mental Health Safety Improvement Programme (MHSIP) was a national programme aimed at improving the safety and outcomes of mental health care by reducing unwarranted variation and providing a high-quality healthcare experience for all people across the system. The programme concluded in September 2023.
The programme’s key ambition was to reduce restrictive practice in inpatient Mental Health and Learning Disability services.
Supporting local delivery of the programme
To support the delivery of this work we created the UCLPartners Mental Health Patient Safety Network (PSN). Its purpose was to bring together a range of stakeholders who have an interest in, or are involved in, delivering mental health care to co-design and deliver this improvement programme for the benefit of patients and staff. This network provided a platform to learn and share ideas for improving patient safety in Mental Health Trusts in the first instance and to showcase examples of good practice and interventions that will support and develop Mental Health services.
In September 2023, we held a pan-London celebration event with the Health Innovation Network South London and Imperial College Health Partners to showcase the accomplishments and hard work of participating wards. You can watch a recording of the event here.
