UCLPartners welcomes announcement on future of UK’s life sciences
Unveiled this week, the government’s Life Sciences Industrial Strategy sets out proposals to build the UK’s status as a world leader in life sciences. The strategy follows an independent review led by Sir John Bell and aims to capitalise on the UK’s strengths in life sciences to both encourage economic growth and improve health outcomes for patients.
Proposals centre around science, growth, NHS, data, and skills including recommendations to create Digital Innovation Hubs – 2 to 5 regional innovation hubs to provide data across regions of 3 to 5 million people. We are discussing with digital, STP and academic leads how, as a partnership, we can contribute to this.
The strategy also recommends the adoption of the Accelerated Access Review, to speed up the adoption of med tech and digital innovation, with support of the Academic Health Science Networks.
This commitment and subsequent investment in UK life sciences is fantastic news for the partnership and will help ensure patients can access the innovative new tools, treatments and technologies that they deserve.
