UCLPartners to host international medical innovation network

20 November 2023
UCLPartners is to become the host organisation for the Collaboration for the Advancement of Sustainable Medical Innovation (CASMI), an international network committed to understanding and developing better and more sustainable means of effecting medical innovation.

CASMI connects international experts from academia, industry and health systems to enhance the pace, productivity and sustainability of medical innovation to address major health challenges.

Dr Chris Laing, Chief Executive Officer, UCLPartners said “We are delighted CASMI will be joining the UCLPartners family and our health innovation partnership. Over the past few years CASMI has been an influential vehicle for convening a global network to share ideas and formulate recommendations in health innovation. I congratulate John Tooke and the team from UCL together with colleagues across England on their work developing it.”

Professor Sir John Tooke, Executive Chairman of Academic Health Solutions and outgoing CASMI Chair, said “It’s been a privilege to collaborate with great minds across the world, sharing ideas and action plans to advance medical innovation. I’m delighted to be passing the baton to UCLPartners to further this important work.”

As new CASMI hosts, we will continue the momentum already gained across the network, bringing expert perspectives together from across disciplines, sectors and countries to develop ideas and galvanise action. We will also host the IGNITE medical innovation summit, an annual event enabling established and emergent leaders from academia, NHS, industry and charity sectors to drive and accelerate change in their fields and across sectors. Recent summit themes have included health inequalities and bio-emergencies.

Dr Dominique Allwood, Chief Medical Officer, UCLPartners, who will be leading the development of CASMI at UCLPartners, said “It’s essential our work is informed by broader and international perspectives. IGNITE summits offer a unique opportunity for experts to challenge and learn from one another and develop new ways of thinking and working, to ensure that medical innovation is accelerated to sustainably address our most pressing health challenges”
