UCLPartners brings together primary care leaders to plan future support

Over 40 primary care leaders including GP Federation chief executives, CCG chairs and community provider leads, came together for the first time at UCLPartners last month to discuss the future of primary care in the region.

Hosted by Professor Martin Marshall (Professor of Improvement Science at UCL, Newham GP and primary care programme director at UCLPartners), the workshop was opened by Dr Arvind Madan, Primary Care Director for NHS England, who gave the national perspective and presented the GP Forward View implementation plan. Local leaders, Dr John Robson and Dr Mike Gill, discussed examples that have engaged primary care and are supporting new models of delivery.

Following lively discussions, the group agreed the following priorities for UCLPartners to support in the region:

• Providing a forum for primary care leaders to share ideas and experiences, starting with the co-design of a common vision for the future of general practice
• Building the leadership and improvement capacity and capabilities of both the workforce and primary care organisations to enable service redesign and wider transformation.

The team is now developing a work plan and also planning the next workshop on workforce design – Designing the primary care workforce of the future – on 29 September 2016.  If you would like to know more about the workshop or the primary care development programme, please email Preeti Sud, Programme Manager.

This programme also aligns with our current work, including: atrial fibrillation screening and management, early detection of cancer, and our population-based focus with Newham CCG.
