UCLPartners appoints Steve Thornton as Interim Managing Director

18 June 2021
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Steve Thornton as Interim Managing Director of UCLPartners.

Steve joins us from Queen Mary University of London where he is Vice Principal (Health) and Executive Dean for School of Medicine and Dentistry. Steve is currently a member of the UCLPartners Board where he co-leads our Academic Health Science Centre, which accelerates research into practice. He is also a Consultant Obstetrician and board member at Barts Health NHS Trust.

Steve will take up the post in July 2021, when current UCLPartners Managing Director Professor Mike Roberts is stepping down to take up the position of Chief Executive Officer of Better Safer Care in Melbourne, Australia.

Richard Murley, Chair of UCLPartners said, “I would like to thank Mike for making a huge contribution to the partnership over many years, and for laying such solid foundations for collaboration in the translation of research and innovation into patient benefit. I am delighted that Steve is able to step into the interim Managing Director role, bringing his extensive clinical leadership and strong academic and clinical connections.”

A recruitment process for the substantive Managing Director post will begin in July 2021.
