The UCLPartners’ Board is delighted to announce that Richard Murley has been appointed as the new Chair of UCLPartners.

Richard will succeed the current Chair, Rt. Hon. Professor Lord Kakkar, at the end of his term on 30th April 2021.

Richard has extensive non-executive experience across the healthcare, charity and finance sectors. He is currently Chair and Trustee of Macmillan Cancer Support, a member of the Medical Research Council, Chair of United Trust Bank Limited and Trustee and Deputy Chair of the Epilepsy Society. Richard was previously a board member of UCLPartners through his role as Chair of University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust from 2010 to 2017.

Richard’s other previous roles include Vice-Chair of Rothschild, trustee of Crisis, and Director-General of the Panel on Takeovers and Mergers, which regulates public takeovers in the UK.

Commenting on the appointment, Rt. Hon. Professor Lord Kakkar, who has been Chair of UCLPartners since 2014, said “I am delighted that Richard will be the next Chair of UCLPartners. Richard brings deep insight through his previous board role and knowledge of our academic health science partnership, together with a wealth of experience through his wide range of non-executive roles. It has been a great pleasure to chair UCLPartners over the past seven years and I am really pleased to be leaving the partnership in such good hands.”

Richard Murley said: “I am thrilled to return to this integrated and diverse partnership organisation. I look forward to working with the board, our partners and the UCLPartners team to improve care for our collective population of 6 million through research and innovation.”
