SBRI funding call

30 June 2017

SBRI Healthcare is an NHS England funded initiative led by the Academic Health Science Networks to develop technology solutions for known healthcare challenges. The focus for Summer 2017 is cancer; screening and accelerated diagnosis as well as solutions for improved management of those who have survived.

Cancer remains one of the public’s most feared illnesses, affecting more than one in three of us in our lifetimes. This reality means that most of us will face the anxiety of ourselves or a loved one receiving this diagnosis at some point.

We know that improving the ability to diagnose cancer – to facilitate tests that are accessible and palatable will enhance our already record high survival rates. More than half of people receiving a cancer diagnosis will now live ten years or more. But our mortality rates are higher than they could be as we know there is much we could do to improve patient experience and long-term quality of life, and to make our care more patient-centred.

The SBRI Healthcare programme will be looking to receive applications from companies with innovations that can enhance the screening, diagnosis or management of cancer.  Successful applicants can receive up to £100,000 of funding for Phase one (feasibility) and up to £1m for Phase Two (development) for solutions that match the needs of the NHS.  You need to have a truly innovative offer that could transform screening, diagnosis or management of cancer. Examples of previous SBRI investments and successful companies can be found at via the website www.sbrihealthcare.com.

The detailed NHS needs will be provided in an SBRI Healthcare briefing document that will be available the week commencing 24 July with briefing events planned for London on Tuesday 25 and Manchester on Thursday 27.

The deadline for entries will be 4 September.

Register at www.sbrihealthcare.com to receive the full briefing and details (available from 25 July).
