Jubilee Birthday Honours list recognises colleagues from across the partnership

The extraordinary contributions and service of a number of colleagues from our NHS and university partners has been recognised in the Queen's Jubilee Birthday Honours.

Honours awarded to colleagues from across our partnership include:

London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine 

  • Dr Nicholas Davies, Assistant Professor of Mathematical Modelling, has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to the COVID-19 response.

Queen Mary University, London

  • Professor Joanne Martin, Director of the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London, and President of the Royal College of Pathologists, has been named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the NHS and to Medical Education.

Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

  • Professor Margaret Johnson, a consultant at the Royal Free, Professor of Medicine at UCL and Co-Clinical Director of NIHR Clinical Research Network North Thames, has been awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to the NHS and people with HIV.

University College London

  • Professor Michael Arthur, former Provost and President of UCL and a former member of the UCLPartners board, has been named a Knight Bachelor for services to higher education.
  • Professor Jose Alejandro Madrigal Fernandez, professor of haematology at UCL, consultant at the Royal Free Hospital, and the founder and first scientific director of the Anthony Nolan Research Institute, has been awarded an OBE for services to haematology.
  • Professor Stephen Powis, National Medical Director of NHS England, Professor of Renal Medicine at UCL and chair of the NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) hosted by UCLPartners, has been awarded a Knight Bachelor for services to the NHS, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

  • Professor Rachel Batterham, the founder of the UCLH Bariatric Centre for Weight Management and Metabolic Surgery, as well as a Professor of Obesity, Diabetes and Endocrinology at UCL, has been appointed as an OBE for services to people affected by obesity.

Whittington Health NHS Trust

  • Tina Jegede, Nurse Lead for Care Homes and Joint Director of Race, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, has been named an MBE for services to social care.
  • Maria Sanchez, Senior Dental Nurse, has been awarded the Medal of the Order of the British Empire for services to dental care.

Dr Chris Laing, Chief Executive Officer of UCLPartners, said: “Congratulations to colleagues across our partnership who have been honoured for their outstanding contributions to health and care.  It is wonderful to see so many of our colleagues and the work of their teams recognised in this way.”
