Dr Matt Kearney awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours

1 January 2024
We are thrilled to share that Dr Matt Kearney, Senior Adviser to our Cardiovascular Health programmes, has been recognised for services to health and the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Matt joined UCLPartners in 2019 and is currently Senior Advisor for our Cardiovascular Health work. In his time at the company Matt has been instrumental in delivering initiatives that have improved the lives of people across North London and parts of Essex, and beyond.

He is a practising GP in Shropshire and from 2016-2019 served as NHS England’s first National Clinical Director for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention.

Matt has been the founder of several major resources driving prevention in primary care. He created CVDprevent, the national primary care audit, and has developed CVDACTION – a smart data tool that brings together all the key metrics for CVD prevention in one place, integrating the results of around 85 searches into user friendly, highly actionable dashboards, in order to display gaps, opportunities and inequalities in preventive care.

Following the success of CVDACTION uptake across North London and Essex, Matt has now set up his own spin out company – Into-Action.Health – which will roll out CVDACTION across the UK.

Matt has also played an integral role in developing and implementing Size of the Prize, the UCLPartners Proactive Care Frameworks and the UCLPartners-Primrose Frameworks.

I am deeply honoured to receive this award. My work has grown from the conviction that we could do much better at preventing the devastation of heart attacks and strokes. But none of it would have been possible without the support and creativity of friends in UCLPartners, NHS England and the Department of Health who all share the passion for transforming CVD prevention.
