David Probert appointed UCLH Chief Executive

12 February 2021

David Probert has been announced as the new Chief Executive of University College London Hospitals.

David replaces Professor Marcel Levi, who is stepping down at the end of March to take up a new role as Chair and Chief Executive of the Netherlands Research Council and as the Chief Scientific Officer in the Netherlands.

David has been Chief Executive at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 2016, where one of his key achievements included laying the foundations for Oriel, a pioneering new eye-care research, education and treatment centre in partnership with UCL.

Both UCLH and Moorfields are UCLPartners membership organisations.

Professor Mike Roberts, UCLPartners Managing Director said:  “I congratulate David on his appointment. He has shown fantastic leadership in academic research during his time at Moorfields, and I look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role at UCLH to transform NHS service provision in the reset and recovery period we are now entering. This is a time of huge opportunity with the renewal call for the Biomedical Research Centres, the formation of a North Central London Provider Alliance and the foundation of the North Thames Genomic Medicine Alliance within all of which UCLH has a pivotal role.

I would also like to thank Marcel for his support and achievements as UCLH Chief Executive and as a UCLPartners board member, and I wish him well in his new roles. ”
