Executive Summary

The London Simulation Network Faculty Development provides a set of learning outcomes and domains to support simulation practitioners in their development as faculty, with the aim of promoting continuous professional development and the design and delivery of high quality simulation based education.

It is defined by shared values, beliefs and principles from across healthcare simulation and education, and aims to reflect evidence based best practice in simulation-based education. The framework comprises a set of learning outcomes within 9 subdomains under the main domains of foundational theory, design and delivery. The values of fairness, inclusion and a striving for equality are crucial to being an effective educator and ensuring that simulation delivery is relevant, representative and psychologically safe for all involved.  The commitment to embed this in all that we do is reflected by  learning objectives focussed on these outcomes featuring throughout the framework. Steps have been taken to ensure this framework enables inclusion of faculty from all backgrounds and of all protected characteristics.

The Framework is applicable to all simulation-based educators, from any discipline or profession, working in any organisation across the London region. It is provided as guidance for best practice to help promote self-reflection and personal development, rather than a must do approach. The Framework can also be used by education providers to plan multi-disciplinary, inter-professional faculty development activities locally.

The framework maps to ASPiH standards1 and compliments the healthcare regulatory standards for education and training, and national work to support faculty development.
