Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC)

Our AHSC drives the translation of innovative research into patient benefit.

Our AHSC drives the translation of innovative research into patient benefit.

We bring together world-leading research and clinical expertise to transform the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of the greatest health challenges affecting our population. We align objectives and resources across organisations, to accelerate the translation of discoveries in areas of unmet need.

Our AHSC is distinct from other AHSCs – which are often a partnership of a single hospital and university – because we bring together a cluster of world-class specialist institutions to deliver world-class clinical, research and educational outcomes.

Our designation as an AHSC was renewed from April 2020 in for a further five years.

Academic Health Science Centres are designated by NHS England and NHS Improvement and the National Institute for Health and Care Research for demonstrating excellence in health research, health education and patient care.
