Current programmes

London Transformation and Learning Collaborative – Critical Care Programme

The London Transformation and Learning Collaborative – Critical Care (LTLC) programme is aimed at supporting the cross-skilling of the London NHS workforce to manage:

  • existing critical care demand;
  • potential future spikes in critical care demand as a result of Covid-19; and
  • longer-term permanent expansion of critical care capacity.

This programme supports London’s recovery plan by ensuring that:

  • system-level training infrastructure sustains readiness for future surge and increased critical care capacity;
  • well-being is integrated for all staff; and
  • opportunities to enable workforce and training innovations are maximised and continually adapted.

Student Peer Support Work

UCLPartners are developing a model for peer support workers for 18-25 year olds to improve care pathways in higher education, for initial implementation by the UCL Student Union. This will be achieved by establishing an Expert Reference Group (ERG), including students with lived experience of mental health challenges (ideally having engaged in peer support services). This ERG will advise on the adaptation, led by UCLPartners, of the original PSW framework developed by UCL, UCLPartners, the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health and Health Education England.

This competency framework and implementation recommendations will assist healthcare providers and higher education institutes establish peer support services for 18-25 year olds with mental health challenges, including crisis intervention services.

Patient Safety Syllabus

In July 2019, NHS Improvement launched the NHS National Patient Safety Strategy. A key element of this is the development and implementation of a patient safety syllabus, which was created by Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) based on a proactive approach to the prevention of harm. UCLPartners is working in partnership with HEE to establish the required curricula for the various staff groups in the numerous organisations that make up the NHS. UCLP is working alongside our existing patient safety and education networks, to share expertise and enable collaboration between patient safety leadership and patient safety educators. We aim to support organisations across London to assess their readiness to implement the Patient Safety Syllabus.

Support for PhD Students

ARC-funded PHD studentships

The Academy doctoral programme brings together PhD students from across the ARC, to create a community of students training in applied health research and take best advantage of the expertise available across the partnership. PhD students, clinical academic fellows and ECRs are also welcome to join the ARC North Thames Academy ECR network.

Alongside doctoral programmes provided by our partner universities, we run the ARC North Thames Academy Early Career Researcher Network for PhD students, ARC research staff and alumni with events throughout the year. These events are a mixture of socials, workshops, and seminars, which cover wider skills such as interdisciplinary working, teaching, implementation, and research co-production. We aim to address particular training needs of applied health researchers working at the interface of academia and health and care services.
