Professor Sir Peng Khaw

Director of Moorfields NIHR BRC

Professor Sir Peng Khaw is Director of Moorfields NIHR BRC.

He is Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Professor of Glaucoma and Ocular Healing at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. He is also Director of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre in Ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Director of Research and Development at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

He has a long track record of developing new treatments from laboratory through to international clinical trials. He has delivered 20 named lectures, won numerous awards including the first international ARVO Pfizer Translational Medicine Prize. He has helped raise grants of over £100 million, including funding for the world’s largest Children’s Eye Hospital and the translational research clinical centre at Moorfields.

He was knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for 2013 for his services to ophthalmology.

He passionately believes that scientific research will enable us to achieve new and better treatments to changes lives for the better.
