Improving cancer journeys across London and Essex

Cancer costs households an average of £891 a month.

People in disadvantaged areas face worse outcomes and higher death rates.

We are working with Macmillan Cancer Support to improve cancer care and keep people out of crisis by improving access to holistic support.

Last year we began our four-year programme of work spanning three areas with high levels of deprivation: Enfield and Haringey, Barking and Dagenham, and Southend. We anticipate 11,687 people across our sites will be directly impacted by our work.

This year we joined the dots between partners, local authorities and health services that had not worked together before with a cancer focus. We listened to people living with cancer and frontline staff to understand local challenges and strengths.

We are working closely with the local population and system partners in each of the three areas, with support from Macmillan, to test tailored approaches: from tackling language barriers and digital access, to improving links between community support and cancer care.

The ICJ work in Enfield and Haringey is absolutely crucial and I’m proud to support this programme every step of the way.
