11 October 2016

Front cover image from guideA new ‘how to guide’ has been released to help commissioners and providers develop youth forums to support person-centred commissioning of children and young people in health and care services.

The ‘how to guide’ is a recipient of the NHS England’s Celebrating Participation in Healthcare grant award scheme and sponsored by NIHR North Themes CLAHRC, and has been authored by the University of East London (UEL).

The interactive online guide provides articles, resources and a step by step guide in how to build and sustain a youth forum in the public care arena.

Examples provided in the guide are drawn from the Newham CCG Young Diabetes Project steered by a multi-agency task group including UCLPartners, Healthy London Partnership, Diabetes UK, Newham CCG, Barts Health NHS Trust, NEL Healthcare Consulting and the Institute for Health and Human Development, UEL.

Dr Anil Shah, GP Partner and Clinical Lead, Newham CCG said: “I’m delighted to be able to share the work we have been doing in Newham to engage young people. I hope that by producing this guide we can encourage others to develop similar models in their areas, enabling them to transform the health and wellbeing of their local populations”
